(The process of degeneration and regeneration),影像遂成為城市地景(Cityscape)中不連續的歷史紀錄。

A Sense of Place is a long-term photographic project I began in 2011, focusing on the unique scenes of modern Taiwanese cities. Shot with a large-format camera in the evening using long exposures, the images reveal juxtapositions: aging, crumbling buildings standing beside newer structures; spaces in transition where people are present, yet seemingly absent.
For me, these buildings are alive, full of decaying, degradation, decline, rejuvenation, and revitalization. The collage of these buildings forms a process of generation and regeneration, and the concept of generation and regeneration represents a simultaneous existence of deterioration and life.
The long exposure of these scenes becomes a pathway to the expression of life, drawing our attention to the everyday—what we might otherwise overlook—and inspiring us to take another look, developing a sense of place.
Having lived in this city for over a decade, I’ve spent countless nights wandering its streets, searching for a corner I could call my own. Beneath dim lights, I used my lens to gather fragments of its fading glow. Yet the city is ever-changing—many places once captured have already vanished.
These spaces exist in a peculiar time zone—simultaneously belonging to the past and the future. I believe this is shaped by the profound sensibility nurtured by people who have long inhabited these places. Through this visual documentation, I aim to cultivate a contemporary vocabulary—one that reflects a deeper concern and awareness about the way we live and perceive our environments.
